Meet The Residents

Who does resident refer to? Residents are individuals who will be provided life-long care and fulfillment by the sanctuary.  We avoid using terminology such as “own” in reference to our residents as we view them as sentient individuals and treat them as such.

Chino

OTTB Thoroughbred

Chino and Sam have been together since 2006! Chino was rescued off the race track when he was around 10 years old. He is now considered a senior horse but that does not hold him back! Chino is a large part of the inspiration for the sanctuary to provide an safe, enriched and empowered environment for equines.

Olive

Standard Donkey

Olive is  beautiful, kind yet fierce girl who originally came from a kill pen out west when she was pregnant with her baby, Poppy. Both Olive and Poppy moved around from different situations until Sam met them at a local rescue in 2019. Olive has grown so much in her ability to embrace her brave personality and express her opinions. She loves to nap in the woods and be groomed in the sunshine.

Poppy

Standard Donkey

Poppy is full of spunk, curiosity and loves to make new friends! Poppy was born in the Northeast after her mom was rescued from a kill pen out west. Poppy loves to play with toys, run around with her mom, and has been eager to practice different skills through positive reinforcement training.

Mando and Grogu

Sanctuary Cats

Mando and Grogu were rescued in April 2021 as “feral” cats who were in need of a home. Being feral, they had no human interaction so it was best to allow them to live in an outdoor environment with proper housing, food, and care. After a patient process, these boys came out of their shells and instantly embraced life on the sanctuary. Mando is the biggest love bug and loves to assist Sam with ALL daily farm task. Although Grogu is still skeptical of humans, he does like scratches on his on terms and takes his role of mouse patroler very seriously! You can find them playing in the hay stall or napping with the chickens!

The Fab Flock

Chickens

Our flock hens includes Luna, Rosa, Leia, Phoebe, Effie, Hops, Citra, and Sheik. They have inspired advocacy for chicken welfare and care, and space for future rescue chickens. They each have their own unique personalities and are valued for the sentient beings they are.

Ivy

SPONSER ME!

Ivy was rescued in April of 2023 with her sister, Willow, from a backyard breeder, and was kept in horrible conditions, until we learned the breeder was planning to bring them to a slaughter auction. Ivy is estimated to be about 5 years old and she was sadly used for breeding her whole life. Sadly, this lead to her developing two forms of reproductive cancer. Her cancerous tumors were removed during her spay surgery, and she will now have lifelong, routine diagnostics to monitor her health. She is a very opinionated girl who loves to be pampered!

Willow

Rabbit

Willow was rescued in April of 2023 with her sister, Ivy, from a backyard breeder, and was kept in horrible conditions, until we learned the breeder was planning to bring them to a slaughter auction. Willow is estimated to be about 3 years old, but was also used for breeding. Luckily, we were able to get her spayed before her reproductive system developed tumors like her sister. She is such a sweet girls who loves to be held and her favorite snack is cilantro!

Finley

Goat

Finley was rescued with his sister, Phoebe, in September 2023 after their previous caretakers were no longer able to care for them due to their older age and health, and did not want them to end up in a bad situation or separated. Finley is such a goofy guy who adores attention and isn’t afraid to speak his mind! He will be forever safe and loved at the sanctuary alongside his sister.

Phoebe

Goat

Phoebe was rescued alongside her brother, Finley, in September 2023 after their previous caretakers were no longer able to care for them due to their older age and health, and did not want to risk them ending up separated or in a bad situation. Phoebe may seem like a quiet girl at first, but once you get to know her, she is full of spunk! She loves to be brushed and explore their outdoor living space! She will be forever loved and safe with her brother here at the sanctuary.

Lumi

Goat

Lumi was welcomed to the sanctuary in January 2024 after being found abandoned on the side of the road in the middle of winter. We found out shortly after coming home to the sanctuary that she is pregnant! Her expected due date is sometime in April and we can’t wait for her to live out her life here with her baby. She is the sweetest, yet sassy little lady and she loves to play!

Juniper Bee

Marvelous Mutt

Juniper bee is the kindest soul you ever did see! Juniper was rescued from Georgia through a local rescue and joined our family in 2017. She is gentle and kind with all the animals at the sanctuary, loves to run laps around the property but also is a champion napper!  Juniper resides on the sanctuary and Sam and her partner are her caregivers.

Emma

Queen of Naps

Emma was rescued in 2014 from a local rescue where she had been placed due to behavioral issues at her first home.  After Veterinary care and treatment of urinary issues, she slowly started to come out of her shell. Although she is not a particularly social cat, we love her quirky personality! She is now 10 years old and is still an active and healthy indoor cat! She can usually be found napping in her favorite sun spots around the house! Emma resides on the sanctuary and Sam and her partner are her caregivers.

Binky was rescued in 2021 from being abandoned at a local resident. She was estimated to be about 18 years old and was diagnosed as a diabetic when she came to the sanctuary. She lived a beautiful almost 3 years with us until her diabetes progressed too severely. She was a feisty and opinionated girl right to the end,

Rey

Rey joined our family in 2018 and sadly passed in April 2023 due to complications from reproductive cancer. She was a big, fluffy girl who loved to jump up for a cuddle and bask in the sunshine with her friends.

Evie

Evie joined our family in 2018 and she sadly passed away in May of 2023 after battling egg yolk peritonitis. She was a gentle girl who loved spending time with her “twin” sister, Effie.
